What are X-rays?

X-rays at K & M Care use electromagnetic waves to produce images of structures inside your body, particularly your bones and chest. The procedure is safe, fast, and painless. It helps your provider diagnose the type and severity of an illness, injury, or disease you may have.

Bones show up as white on X-ray images, the air in your lungs appears black, and muscle and fat show up as gray.

Why might I need X-rays?

K & M Care providers could recommend that you undergo X-rays if they suspect you have one or more of the following conditions:

• Tuberculosis

• Other lung issues

Are X-rays right for me?

To find out if you need X-rays, providers at K & M Care discuss your symptoms and medical history. They check your vital signs and complete a physical exam to assess your overall health, wellness, and risk of illnesses, injuries, and diseases. 

What should I expect when getting X-rays?

Though there’s no special preparation needed to prepare for X-rays at K & M Care, your provider may give you a contrast medium, which is a special type of dye. You ingest the dye by swallowing it or receiving it as an injection or enema. Doing so helps certain structures on the inside of your body show up better on X-ray images.

During X-ray procedures at K & M Care, your provider emits X-ray beams into your body while you stay still. The procedure is painless and fast. Your technician may ask you to change positions periodically or hold your breath during certain times throughout the procedure.

What happens after the procedure?

There’s no downtime after receiving X-rays at K & M Care, so you can resume normal activities immediately. If you’ve received a contrast medium prior to undergoing X-rays, make sure to drink plenty of water after the procedure.

Your K & M Care specialist discusses X-ray results with you and lets you know if you need further diagnostic testing or treatment.
